Centre for Male Fertility & Health

Male fertility deserves a proper investigation

We look after the whole man, not just his numbers. CMFH brings semen health, hormones, sexual function, reproductive anatomy and wider health into one clear, doctor-led assessment.

A result is information, not a verdict

A semen analysis is an important starting point.

It can describe the sample, but it cannot by itself explain why a result looks the way it does, declare a man fertile or infertile, or show what should happen next. We put results into context: your history, symptoms, fertility timeline, previous treatment, medicines, hormones, testicular health, sexual function and relevant aspects of general health. The aim is not to order every test. It is to ask better questions, investigate where the answer could matter, and explain the uncertainties honestly.

Choose a sensible place to start

You do not need to know which test to book.

The complete journey: from testis to fertilisation

Fertility is a multistage process, not simply “having enough sperm”.

What a proper male assessment may consider

One clear, doctor-led assessment

  • Semen health. Count, movement, shape and other selected measures, interpreted with their limits.

  • Hormones. Where blood tests could clarify testicular or endocrine function.

  • Reproductive anatomy. Including examination or ultrasound when the clinical question justifies it.

  • Sexual function. Erections, ejaculation, desire, timing and the pressure fertility attempts can place on intimacy.

  • Medical and fertility history. Including childhood history, infection, injury, surgery, medicines, previous pregnancies and treatment.

  • Wider health. Including relevant metabolic, sleep, lifestyle and nutritional factors.

Unexplained should not mean under-investigated

Sometimes standard tests do not identify a cause.

That uncertainty is real, and even a detailed assessment cannot always remove it. But ‘unexplained’ should not end the conversation before the man has had a thoughtful history, appropriate examination and proportionate investigation.

Sexual function is part of fertility care

Trying to conceive can turn sex into a timetable.

Desire can change. Erections or ejaculation may become more difficult. Couples can feel pressure, blame or distance at exactly the point they are expected to keep trying. These are common clinical concerns, not personal failures, and they deserve a calm, private conversation.
